Urban Documentary — Series
Urban Documentary is a photographic series by seiLeise that documents ephemeral works in urban spaces and transforms them into a lasting form. The focus is not solely on the individual subject, but on its integration into the urban landscape—wall textures, signs of aging, layers, and atmospheric details become essential elements of the image’s impact.
The photographs are taken in various locations and capture moments that are usually only temporarily visible in public spaces. Through the act of photographic documentation, these fleeting situations are preserved and placed in a new context—transforming from ephemeral interventions in urban space into independent works within a collection.
The collection includes works in various formats, including DIN A4 and DIN A2, each of which creates its own visual impact. Smaller formats focus more on the immediate proximity to the subject and precise details, while larger formats reveal the broader spatial context and emphasize the relationship between the subject and its surroundings.
The works are printed as fine art prints in seiLeise own studio seiLeise select Hahnemühle papers, including Photo Rag 308 and Photo Rag Baryta. Each type of paper enhances specific image qualities—from soft tonal ranges and a matte finish to enhanced depth and detail.
The motifs in this series reflect a wide range of urban situations: signs in public spaces, traces of change, temporary interventions, and visual dialogues between art and the city. Each work documents a specific moment and preserves it as part of an ongoing visual archive of urban practice.
All works are seiLeise by seiLeise , printed in his own studio, hand-signed, and numbered. The editions are limited and follow a clearly defined formal structure that allows for the long-term expansion of the series.
